Difference between documents, transmittals, and mail
Documents
A document is a digital record of information relevant to the project and is amended and updated over time. Drawings, schedules, and specifications are examples of project documents. Once uploaded to your organization’s document register, everyone in your organisation can see it, enabling easy collaboration on the current revision.
Transmittals
A transmittal is used to send updated documents to organisations working on the project. All the document details, such as revision and revision date are included in the transmittal.
Mail is used for everyday communications and processes between project collaborators. You can attach documents to a mail but attaching them won’t upload them into the document register – you or the recipient do that separately. No document details are captured in mail either. The file is simply attached and sent.
