We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend and partner Carl Tullson.
Carl joined our Chicago restructuring team directly out of Ohio State University College of Law in 2007. In 2018, he was promoted to counsel and relocated to Wilmington to help lead the transactional side of the office’s Corporate Restructuring Group. He was promoted to partner in 2021.
Carl was the quintessential Skadden lawyer — diligent, creative, thoughtful and incredibly hardworking. Carl loved nothing more than mentoring junior associates. He spoke often about how lucky he felt to have had such great mentors at the firm, and he felt a responsibility to pay that forward. His impact on our colleagues’ development will be long lasting.
Carl was deeply dedicated to the practice of law and focused on complex debt restructurings, troubled company mergers and acquisitions, and financing transactions across a broad array of industries. Clients and colleagues turned to him for his ingenuity, sharp strategic analysis and grace under pressure. His innovative approaches and overwhelming victories on behalf of clients such as Black Diamond, Concordia International and Danaos earned him inclusion in Chambers USA, as well as recognition as an Emerging Leader by The M&A Advisor and an Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer by Turnarounds & Workouts. Carl took on a wide range of pro bono matters, was actively involved in the firm’s summer program and served on our Opinion Committee.
Carl is survived by his wife, Aimee, and their two children, Amanda and Christian.
