On March 23, 2024, DivinaLaw Associate Atty. Renz J. Ayongao was invited by the International Moot Court Division of the Student Community for International Law (SCIL) based in the Faculty of Law at Udayana University in Bali, Indonesia to discuss the basic knowledge of pleading practice.
The SCIL Moot Training was held in a hybrid setup where Atty. Ayongao discussed oral advocacy for different international moot court competitions. Participated by the mooters of the Faculty of Law at Udayana University, Atty. Ayongao highlighted the importance of preparation when delivering an oral advocacy.
“Oral pleading is about advocating your client’s cause in the best way you can. You have to come prepared for any and all questions that the panel of judges will throw you. Your confidence in having a winning mindset is measured by how much time and effort you spent studying, researching, discussing, and doing drills with your coaches and fellow mooters. At the end of the day, nothing beats preparation,” he explained.
Moreover, Atty. Ayongao also shared his experience as a mooter and his fair share of challenges back in law school .
“I know how difficult it is to balance academics with the demands that are attached to joining moot court competitions especially when your team qualifies for international rounds. But the training you get out of this endeavor, both in terms of written and oral skills, will come much handy in your journey as a law student and even more so as a practicing lawyer in the future,” Atty. Ayongao added.
Atty. Ayongao was a Global Quarterfinalist and the Team Captain in the 2021 International Children’s Rights Moot Court held in the Netherlands and a Global Rounds Qualifier in the John H. Jackson International Trade Moot Court in 2020 held in Switzerland. He is part of the Firm’s litigation team.
