Appleby Bermuda is pleased to be a Silver sponsor of the Transcontinental Trusts Bermuda 2024 conference taking place 19 – 21 June at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club.
Now celebrating its 10th year, the three-day trusts conference attracts over 200 delegates from around the globe, and features 60+ speakers. The conference provides an opportunity for delegates to discuss current challenges impacting trusts internationally, while connecting with the full breadth of the private client network to generate impactful engagement.
Private Client & Trusts Partner Nicola Bruce will be speaking on the 21 June ‘Jurisdictional Update’ panel which will examine regulatory and tax updates, and developments in the trusts space.
Nicola has a wealth of experience in offshore private client work, and has acted for some of the world’s highest net-worth international families on complex matters including the establishment, amendment and restructuring of trusts, and transactions involving substantial business assets held in trust. Her experience also includes charitable and philanthropic trusts, and establishing and advising commercial purpose trusts, particularly in the insurance sector. Having acted as a director of high-value trust and holding companies, Nicola has a deep personal insight into the complexities of acting as a trustee. She has extensive experience of trust litigation, in particular, court applications to restructure trusts and extend their perpetuity periods.
Nicola also has extensive experience in pensions work, both onshore and offshore, having advised a pensions regulatory body and some of the largest pension schemes in the world. She has established and amended pension schemes, and sat on a working committee which advised the Bermuda Pension Commissioner on pension law reform. Nicola has also been involved with trust law reform initiatives and has advised the Bermuda government on new trust laws.
Other trusts legal experts from our Private Client & Trusts and Dispute Resolution departments attending the conference include Counsel Caljonah Smith and Associates Luisa Olander and James Sellick, and Latin America expert Eduardo Fox.
