Appleby Sponsors CARIFTA Squad, Supporting Bermuda’s Youth Triathletes.
International law firm Appleby sponsors the Bermuda Triathlon Association’s (BTA) Youth Development Squad (YDS) for the 2024 CARIFTA Triathlon, Aquathlon, and Mixed Relay Championships in Barbados on 17 and 18 August.
YDS comprises a talented group of 38 young athletes, aged 11 to 17, gearing up for competition in Barbados. 11 of them are new to CARIFTA games. The intensive YDS program focuses on nurturing local triathletes’ skills and ambitions through coaching, aiming to boost their presence in local and global events, with CARIFTA being the main highlight. The YDS now has 55 registered junior members.
As the main sponsor for the second year, Appleby is committed to supporting the growth and empowerment of young athletes. This aligns with the firm’s dedication to fostering local sporting talent and encouraging healthy competition. Appleby’s financial backing has provided the YDS with their new pink and blue race kits (including triathlon suits, t-shirts, and backpacks) that the athletes are eager to showcase internationally.
Appleby Partner Clive Langley, who is a member of the YDS coaching team, along with Head Coach Neil de Ste Croix, said, “We have seen the highest level of interest from athletes wanting to compete in this year’s CARIFTA Triathlon and Aquathlon championships and this has meant that all athletes have raised the bar as far as personal performances in the qualifying races. The dedicated coaching team that’s included overseas coach Mike Harlow and local coaches Alec Shepherd, Richard Lau and Caroline Black, have worked tirelessly in order to make sure we have the strongest team possible in what is expected to be the largest field in the history of the event”
Brad Adderley, Appleby Bermuda’s Managing Partner, said, “Our enthusiasm for nurturing young athletes in their triathlon journey reflects our deep-rooted dedication to Bermuda’s youth and sports communities. We’re excited to partner with the BTA’s Youth Development Squad for the second year, and send our heartfelt best wishes to the CARIFTA team. The growth of the YDS has been remarkable, fueled by the unwavering efforts of countless volunteers, including devoted coaches and parents to ensure the program’s success. We’re thrilled to see these young athletes have an amazing experience and can’t wait to celebrate their achievements.”
