Skadden secured a full payout and termination without cause from Louisiana State University (LSU) on behalf of former LSU football coach Brian Kelly and Brian Kelly LLC.
In October 2025, LSU fired Mr. Kelly after the team lost to Texas A&M University. LSU subsequently took the position that Mr. Kelly had not been formally terminated and that it believed grounds for termination for cause existed.
Skadden filed a lawsuit in Louisiana state court, seeking a declaratory judgment confirming that LSU terminated Mr. Kelly without cause and that he was entitled to receive the full liquidated damages provided for in his contract.
On November 26, 2025, LSU conceded that it had fired Mr. Kelly without cause and agreed to pay him the full liquidated damages under the terms of his contract.
