International law firm Bird & Bird has advised longstanding client Gaussion on its $28 million funding round, bringing total capital raised by the company to over $44 million since its founding in 2022.
The round was co-led by AlbionVC and BGF, with participation from existing and new investors including mobility specialist fund Autotech Ventures, UCL Technology Fund, DN Capital and Future Ventures, the latter led by Steve Jurvetson, an early investor in SpaceX.
Gaussion is a London-based deep tech company pioneering energy intelligence technology for battery packs. Founded in 2022 as a spinout from UCL by Dr Thomas Heenan and Dr Chun Tan, the company has developed breakthrough technology that uses an external magnetic field to enable rapid charging, improving the performance and lifespan of battery systems through proprietary, AI-enabled control software. The technology is compatible with any lithium-ion battery across a wide range of applications, including electric vehicles, drones, data centres and consumer electronics, with no change to battery chemistry or design.
The proceeds of the round will be used to scale commercial deployment of MagLiB™, Gaussion’s magnetic PCB retrofit system, and Aeon™, its proprietary control chip and software platform, across the automotive, aerospace, data centre and consumer electronics sectors. The company is already working with several of the world’s leading vehicle, aerospace, energy-storage and consumer electronics manufacturers, with 14 active commercial programmes underway and technology backed by 66 patent applications across 17 patent families.
The Bird & Bird team was led by partner Adam Meisels, with legal director Benjamin Simon and associate Katie Grimstone.
Adam Meisels, Corporate partner at Bird & Bird, comments: “We are delighted to have advised Gaussion once again on this landmark fundraise. This round is a significant milestone for the company and reflects the enormous commercial potential of Gaussion’s technology at a time when demand for smarter, more efficient battery solutions is accelerating rapidly across multiple sectors – from electric vehicles and aerospace to AI infrastructure and consumer electronics. Our longstanding relationship with the Gaussion team is a source of great pride, and we look forward to continuing to support them as they scale.”
