Linklaters has comprehensively advised the Scholen op Maat (SOM) consortium on an innovative school public-private partnership.
The consortium, comprising infrastructure investor Invesis and the state-owned bank Belfius, will design, build, finance and maintain 38 schools under the ambitious Schools of Flanders programme.
The project will create over 176,000 m² of modern learning space for more than 20,000 pupils, representing a total investment of circa €500 million.
It´s a landmark of private investment driving meaningful societal impact and delivering sustainable, future-proof educational infrastructure for generations of students and teachers.
A cross-practice Linklaters team advised the consortium from selection through to contract close, including the (sub)contracts, financing structures and public procurement law.
The team was led by Partner Laurens Cools (Corporate, Banking) and Managing Associate Melissa Verplancke (Energy & Infrastructure) and supported by Junior Associate Laure Driessen (Corporate).
