Global law firm Shearman & Sterling has expanded its market-leading global International Arbitration practice with the addition of two partners – Nils Eliasson in Hong Kong and Jeremy Sharpe in London.
Nils Eliasson joins the firm from Mannheimer Swartling, where he headed that firm’s dispute resolution practice in Asia. Nils specializes in international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration and has acted as counsel or arbitrator in disputes encompassing joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, construction, engineering, license disputes, telecommunications, real estate and other areas. Nils has represented clients in arbitrations conducted under the auspices of most major arbitration institutions as well as in ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules. He has also acted as counsel for investors and States in a number of investment arbitrations under bilateral investment treaties as well as under the Energy Charter Treaty.
Jeremy Sharpe comes to Shearman & Sterling from his position as Chief of Investment Arbitration in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State. He led a six-lawyer team that represented the United States in investor-State and State-to-State disputes arising under U.S. international investment agreements, including NAFTA and CAFTA.

Nils Eliasson is a highly ranked partner in Chambers and Partners’ Asia Pacific Guide. In addition, he is a member of the HKIAC Council, the decision-making and governing body of the HKIAC, and is one of Hong Kong’s representatives on the ICC Arbitration Commission.
Jeremy Sharpe is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches courses on international dispute resolution. He has served as the Legal Adviser to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and as an Attorney-Adviser in the State Department’s Office of African and Near Eastern Affairs and Office of International Claims and Investment Disputes. He has written extensively on international arbitration and public international law topics.
