Global law firm Clyde & Co has recruited leading Hong Kong Marine Partner Anthony Woo.
Anthony has extensive experience in shipping, commodities and arbitration related matters. He regularly represents P&I Clubs, liability underwriters, ship-owners, charterers and freight forwarders in dry shipping matters, as well as logistics providers, including their liability insurers.
His practice includes advising on all aspects of charterparty disputes, defending bill of lading claims, regulatory summonses, as well as claims arising from collision and salvage. He also handles admiralty cases including ship arrest and jurisdiction challenges.
His arbitration practice includes work in Hong Kong, London and Singapore. Due to the number of Chinese entities he represents, his practice has a strong focus in advising on Mainland China-related disputes.
Anthony's practice has many synergies with the existing Clyde & Co Asia Pacific Marine Practice. Partner Matthew Lam in Hong Kong as well as Chris Metcalf in Singapore both share similar clients and skills to Anthony.
Anthony said of his move to Clyde & Co: "Clyde & Co is a household name in marine both locally and globally, and can offer the perfect platform to further develop my marine practice. I am also attracted by the firm's strong insurance practice, but, what really excites me is Clyde & Co's coverage in Mainland China, where they have three well established operations."
Managing Partner of the Hong Kong office Simon McConnell said of Anthony's appointment: "We have ambitious plans for the firm both in Hong Kong and in particular the marine practice in the Asia pacific region, Anthony's appointment is a key part of that strategy."
Anthony has practised as a solicitor in Hong Kong since 1995. He joins on 26 May 2016 from Hill Dickinson where he has been a partner since 2014. He is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
