The future prosperity of the maritime industry will rely on advances in technology. Technological change has been the subject of considerable debate in recent times, but what is the technological reality of the shipping industry’s future? When and how will the industry adopt these new solutions? What are the enablers and the barriers? Will the regulatory environment encourage or impede innovation?
This survey aims to bring together the expertise of regulators, marine engineers, charterers, ship owners and manufacturers to assess how the industry is being reshaped by rapid technological change examining the nuance of perceived risks and opportunities offered by emerging technologies:
- Unmanned ships
- Smart shipping
- Energy management
- Green technology
From these findings, the IMarEST and Clyde & Co will seek to identify areas where focus is needed to ensure that new solutions meet both evolving regulatory and legal requirements and an increasingly demanding commercial environment.
The survey should take around 20 minutes to complete. Please complete those sections that most correspond to your area of expertise. (You have the option to skip sections that you feel lie outside your professional remit).
Questions marked with an * are mandatory.
All responses are treated as confidential unless otherwise attributed by the survey recipient. If we wish to publish qualitative data recipients will be contacted for permission.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in this research.
