David A. Lang has joined Baker McKenzie as a Partner and will serve as Global Head of LNG, bringing extensive experience in international liquefied natural gas project development and transactions.
Based in Houston, David focuses on energy infrastructure development, acquisition and disposition, with a particular concentration on LNG projects. In the LNG sector, he routinely advises both domestic and international clients across the value chain on matters related to gas supply, liquefaction, marketing and shipping, regasification and gas sales for projects throughout the world.
“David is a tremendously skilled LNG lawyer, perhaps one of the best of his generation,” said Jose Moran, Chair of Baker McKenzie's North American Banking, Finance and Major Projects practice. “His industry savvy and experience in the LNG space will be a great asset for our energy clients worldwide.”
David joins Baker McKenzie from Vinson & Elkins in Houston, where he also previously practiced for seven years in the Hong Kong office, including two years serving as the office Managing Partner. His international experience, in addition to LNG projects, includes transactions involving upstream, midstream, renewable energy and petrochemical sectors.
“With the cross-border nature of LNG and energy work, David’s experience in the Houston and Hong Kong markets will enhance the capabilities of our local and international energy practices,” said Colin Murray, the Firm's Managing Partner in North America. “We are pleased to add David to our team as we expand our energy services across the region with top caliber talent.”
Operating out of a network spanning 47 countries, Baker McKenzie lawyers have been advising on energy projects worldwide for more than 65 years. The legal team’s transactional capability is coupled with broad-ranging skills in finance, corporate, tax, and environmental and competition law. Last year, Legal 500 named the Firm a Client Champion for global energy, recognizing the team for its industry knowledge and strategic insights.
David is the latest in a series of prominent lateral hires in Houston, which include energy transactions lawyer Denmon Sigler, energy litigator Tom Kruse, and corporate and securities lawyer Justin Whittenburg.
"Baker McKenzie is known for having a globally integrated energy team. I’m excited to be part of such a strong network of lawyers where I can grow my practice," David said. “I am looking forward to joining the Firm and offering clients the benefit of a true global platform.”
David received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas and Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Texas and is a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong.
