The pending IP bills covering copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and patents were included in the legislative agenda and introduced to the Myanmar National Parliament (Amyotha Hluttaw) on 18 January 2018.
Prior to this, discussions on the bills were taken up by a committee with the primary responsibility to review the bills. During yesterday’s session, the four bills were introduced to the Parliament by the Minister of the Ministry of Education, followed by an explanation of the bills by the Secretary of the bill committee handling them. This development moves the bills considerably closer to being passed as laws.
Members of the Myanmar National Parliament are expected to deliberate on the bills in the next coming days.
