In July 2017, a company director was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment for failing to comply with court orders to make mandatory provident fund contributions in arrears and surcharges for the company’s employees, which is a criminal offence under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (the “MPFSO”).
This is the first case in which a company director has been sentenced to imprisonment for failing to comply with the MPFSO.
