The CAA award No. 103-Chung-Tze-32 was recognized by Japan’s Kobe District Court on June 9, 2016 for compulsory enforcement. It became the first time that a Taiwanese arbitration award was recognized by a Japanese court for enforcement in Japan.
In the past, opponents in Taiwan often raised the reciprocity argument that the Taiwanese arbitration awards were not recognized in Japan as an defense to block Japanese arbitration awards being recognized by courts in Taiwan.
The aforesaid recognition of the CAA arbitration award by Japanese court marks a new milestone of recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards between Taiwan and Japan.
