The Philippine Legal Education Board has approved the Philippine Competition Commission’s (PCC) proposal to make competition law a part of the law school curriculum, initially to be integrated with Corporation Law. The PCC is now at the stage of conducting a mandatory two-day training program for all the law school teachers who will be handling the course. There will be separate modules to be held in Baguio, Cebu, and Davao in the next several months. The first leg was held last April 25 – 26 in Cebu.
The PCC has invited Quisumbing Torres Competition Partner Alain Charles Veloso was invited as a resource speaker on cartels, other anti-competitive agreements, and abuse of dominance. Charles was also invited to facilitate the discussion of the case studies, as part of the training program. Last year, Charles’ contributed to the development of the syllabus on competition law.
Anti-competitive agreements including cartels, and abuse of dominance, among other salient points of the competition law are covered by Charles’ lectures. Other lecturers include William Kovacic, the previous Chairman of the US Federal Trade Commission and Derek Ritzmann, a former Chief Economist of the Hong Kong Competition Commission and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
