On May 6, 2021, the American Arbitration Association (AAA) – the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), announced the new members of the AAA-ICDR’s Council. Ms. Christine KANG, partner of JunHe, was elected as a member of AAA-ICDR’s Council.
The AAA-ICDR’s Council is composed of recognized experts from the legal and business communities who advise on issues related to the services provided by the AAA-ICDR, including drafting rules and procedures that apply to arbitrations and mediations administered by the AAA-ICDR. Of the 13 new members elected to the AAA-ICDR’s Council this year, Ms. Christine KANG is the only member on the Council appointed as a legal expert practicing in Asia.
Ms. Kang has significant experience in resolving cross-border disputes. Before joining JunHe, Christine practiced at various international law firms and worked at CIETAC for eight years prior to her private practice. She has advised many Fortune 500 companies on their international arbitration cases with major international arbitration institutions, including but not limited to CIETAC, AAA-ICDR, ICC HKIAC, SCC and SIAC, involving various areas. She regularly represents multinationals in different levels of Chinese courts and has also advised Chinese SOEs on their overseas litigation cases, in concert with US and UK litigators.
Ms. Kang has extensive experience in anti-bribery investigations and corporate compliance matters. She currently represents Chinese SOEs in their settlement negotiations with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), including the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the Asia Development Bank, in MDB sanction matters including investigation cooperation’s and compliance programs.
Ms. Kang is an arbitrator with many major international arbitration institutions, including CIETAC, AAA-ICDR, HKIAC, ICC and WIPO. She has been appointed as a member of AAA’s International Advisory Committee and of AAA-ICDR’s Rules Revision Committee. She was also appointed as a member of HKIAC’s Proceedings Committee.
Ms. Kang was recently nominated in Who's Who Legal: Thought Leaders-Global Elite 2020, Arbitration 2020 and GIR 2020.
