HKIAC Snapshot Series – Episode 2 is now available. This is a series of short podcasts focussing on key, and often underexplored, issues in arbitration practice.
The second snapshot explores mock arbitration hearings. This is an exercise of counsels arguing the case or part of the case with opposition before the actual arbitration hearing and the panel of mock arbitrators will provide feedback to the counsels on case and performance. Sarah Grimmer, Secretary-General at HKIAC (Moderator), Simon Chapman QC, Regional Head of Dispute Resolution in Asia at HSF, and Neil Kaplan CBE QC SBS, Arbitrator at Arbitration Chambers discuss the exercise of mock arbitration hearings from the position of arbitrator and counsel.
The speakers discuss the application of having a mock arbitration hearing, the replication of the tribunal and selection of mock arbitrator, the time for conducting a mock hearing, and its value and benefits of this predictive practice in developing persuasive argument.
Episode 3 will be released soon.
Episode 1, focusing on the topic of "The appointment of experts in and around arbitration – by the parties, the tribunal, and the institution" is also available here.
