Murtaza Somjee is a partner at the Firm. Murtaza’s practice consists of advising on financing and corporate debt transactions, including syndicated facilities (international and Indian), acquisition financing transactions, external commercial borrowings (ECBs), structured bond and financing transactions.
Murtaza’s understanding of issues which arise in financing and investment transactions facilitates the advice he provides to clients in dispute resolution matters. Murtaza advises the firm’s clients on pre-litigation strategies, contentious proceedings, and disputes representations before tribunals, arbitrators and superior courts in India.
In addition, Murtaza has recently advised on a variety of M&A and private equity transactions in the healthcare space. Prior to founding Jerome Merchant + Partners, Murtaza worked at the Mumbai office of AZB. Murtaza studied at the University of Chicago and is a graduate of the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (2008).
