With data volumes exploding and some projects involving over 100 reviewers, managing a review project can be complicated, time consuming, and even frustrating. And as the e-discovery industry continues to adapt to changing regulations and new technology, this complexity is not going away.
Still, as any legal professional knows, document review is integral to every case or investigation. So, at Relativity, we asked ourselves: “How do we make this complexity more manageable? How do we ensure that instead of feeling daunting, document review feels flexible, efficient, and even seamless?”
What did we come up with? Review Center, RelativityOne’s new, unified destination for review management. Review Center helps you take a review project from start to finish from one central location, while leveraging the best of human and artificial intelligence to expedite paths to insights.
Read on to learn about how two early Review Center adopters have already seen benefits of streamlined administration and thoughtful implementation of the latest AI technology.
An Intuitive Review Experience—for Admins and Reviewers Alike
Review Center combines the best parts of Relativity’s review chops with new design components that simplify processes and eliminate known pain points for your entire team.
Leslie Nash, litigation support specialist at Foley & Lardner LLP, praised the improvements that come with these thoughtful changes: “Review Center has simplified the process immensely,” she said. “There’s really no way around it.”
At the core of this simplification are Queues, or foundational building blocks that turn saved searches into an operative set of documents.
“[With queues] Review Center has removed the need to create, refresh, and manage batches,” said Leslie. “All of the metrics on completion rates are now automatically captured in the Review Center visualizations, which are robust enough to show relevance trends in a simple saved search review. [Before Review Center,] calculating those trends with traditional batches would be a multi-step process with static results.”
Rich Ford forensic manager at BDO, also recognizes the benefits of Review Center’s new queue-based workflow and templates.
“The queues allow administrators to easily manage several workflows simultaneously, and Relativity has developed some great templates for common ancillary workflows around quality control and second-level review.”
Alongside these administrative advantages comes a new reviewer experience, where the process looks and feels the same—no matter the project.
“The Review Queues tab in Review Center is a much simpler experience, with very little to distract [reviewers],” described Leslie.
The simple workflow—log in, enter the Review Queues tab, click Start Review—also requires far less training for reviewers, so teams can focus their time on what they review instead of how to do so.
BDO’s team has seen these improvements first-hand. “Because there is little end-user batch training, more time can be spent focusing on the substance of matters,” said Rich. “This ultimately leads to better client outcomes.”
Robust Reporting to Enable Quick Action
Complex review projects lead to complex questions. What key trends are prevalent? Where do we need to make adjustments? When can I expect my project to be completed?
As Rich explained, “Review Center provides near-instantaneous feedback to administrators on review progress, projected completions, and reviewer metrics.”
A detailed, real-time dashboard helps get teams the answers they need so they can act quickly, while a leaderboard highlights metrics that matter, including coding progress and responsive document counts.
This rich reporting helps navigate even the most complex, multi-stage review project—including directing a change of course when necessary and decreasing time to the finish line. Leslie recalled a specific instance where Review Center’s reporting directly impacted Foley’s strategy:
“We make the reports available to case teams so they can home in on trends that may be significant to case strategy. For example, we recently reviewed a straight set of search term hits in chronological order and noticed that relevance was dipping dramatically in 2018. We caught that in the relevance rate trend line on the Coding Progress chart, which compelled us to go back and start sampling some of the data from that period. It turns out that we needed to search for a specific project name to capture relevant communications. If not for the real-time reporting on relevance, we may not have spotted the trend.”
AI on Any and Every Matter
Relativity customers have long used active learning to leverage technology-assisted review and increase productivity. Review Center presents the next generation of this technology, making it easier than ever to prioritize relevant data. With the same queue-based workflow used to administer AI- and non-AI-ranked documents, users can easily leverage artificial intelligence without adjusting their processes.
“The application has made access to AI and machine learning functionality available in a few clicks,” stated Rich. “The near-dynamic ranking of algorithmic scores gives subject matter experts, who we see typically working beside AI, immediate results on where a document fits within the data set. We are also able to provide these users access to view the model metrics and progress, which provides further insight into model performance.”
To power this enhanced experience, Relativity has improved the foundational AI technology with a new, integrative learning classifier. Integrative learning promotes greater efficiency and stronger predictions to get the right documents to reviewers faster, saving time and reducing costs.
Plus, the tech is flexible enough to adapt to future AI advancements—meaning that, as we experiment with new technology and roll out better algorithms, they can be easily incorporated into Review Center and flow right into your hands.
Review Center takes your review workflows to the next level: simplifying where it makes sense, digging deep where needed, and bringing you the latest and greatest in AI for RelativityOne. To learn more about Review Center check out our upcoming webinar or reach out to our sales team.
