Teresa “Terry” Stanek Rea, a partner in Crowell & Moring’s Patent & ITC Litigation Group and the former acting and deputy director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), has been named president of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Bar Association.
The PTAB Bar Association “seeks to preserve and promote the highest professional and ethical standards among lawyers and stakeholders who appear before the PTAB” and “is dedicated to helping secure the just, speedy, and inexpensive resolution of every PTAB proceeding, and to maintaining or improving the reputation and stature of the legal profession and community associated with the PTAB.”
A recognized trailblazer in the field, Rea’s education and experience extend over 40 years, providing a solid foundation to serve as a consultant, patent office expert, IP strategist, arbitrator, and mediator for a wide variety of matters and technologies, particularly those involving pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices. She served as the Acting Undersecretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Acting Director of the USPTO. She was also an Administrative Patent Judge on the PTAB.
