Crowell & Moring was honored with two awards: “Impact Case of the Year in Belgium” and “Impact Case of the Year in Europe” by Managing IP. The awards were presented at the publication’s annual IP awards ceremony on June 21, recognizing firms, individuals and companies “behind the most innovative and challenging IP work of the past year, as well as those driving the international IP market.”
Crowell received the “Impact Case of the Year in Belgium” award for its work alongside ALTIUS on SABAM v FMFF (2022). A team, led by partners Thomas De Meese, Kristof Roox, and Sari Depreeuw, handled the matter for the Flemish Federation of Music Festivals related to royalties demanded by SABAM (Belgian Association of Authors, Composers and Publishers).
The firm also won an Impact Case of the Year in Europe for work alongside Fencer on Impexeco NV v Novartis (2022), which centered on a trademark dispute before the Belgian courts with firm client Novartis up against parallel import companies Impexeco NV and PI Pharma, concerning the repackaging and rebranding of generic medicinal products into reference medicinal products. The Crowell team was led by partner Kristof Roox and senior counsel Jurgen Figys.
