Alongside our community, Relativity is putting Legal Data Intelligence into action, transforming legal work with generative AI, and embracing the next step toward cloud transformation—so we can all thrive in the legal profession of today.
As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the evolving landscape of our industry and how we’re positioning Relativity in alignment with our community for success this year and beyond.
In thinking about what’s ahead, I’m taken back to what initially brought me here (and, not-so-coincidentally, what drives the world’s most successful companies). It comes down to three core strands of DNA: long-term commitment and vision, ongoing innovation with purpose, and a sheer obsession with customer success. I know from my past couple of years of being immersed in our industry that many of you share this very same DNA. Much of what we have planned for this year seeks to bring these three guiding forces to life, and it feels urgent to do so.
With more than 20 years of experience under our belt, nearly $1 billion in technology investments in our solutions over the past several years, and some of the best people in this (or any!) business, we humbly understand how important it is to anticipate and embrace change. As we race to stay ahead of it, it’s critical to do so strategically—to capture the moment, deeply understand what makes it unique, and take action.
The landscape we all stand on is shifting, and massive amounts of change are upon us. The data volumes, data types, and complex use cases for what we all do are exponentially growing. Thankfully, the acceleration of native cloud software performance and, of course, generative AI, are outpacing this accelerated change and growth. Not to mention, this community has continued to build its human superpowers, which are foundational for all of our success. Deep breath. Now it’s about capturing the moment.
This is a seminal moment in our space, and alongside our community, we are seizing the opportunity to embrace the rate of change necessary for our industry and customers to not merely keep pace, but to thrive. We’ll do this together.
Embracing New Legal Data Challenges
The Legal Data Intelligence (LDI) initiative was founded less than one year ago by Relativity and industry veterans seeking to redefine the scope of work of the legal profession’s people and platforms. By now, we all know these workflows and skillsets go far beyond e-discovery, and this is way bigger than Relativity. LDI brings together the entire ecosystem of legal practitioners, service providers, and technology developers to create a model, language, and role definitions that will help drive this industry forward.
In December, the LDI Architects program launched to formally leverage the expertise of this broader community, incorporate their inputs, and enhance the LDI model for the benefit of the legal industry at large. We’re thrilled to share this cohort will introduce an updated model in the coming months, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.
We’re honored to play a part in bringing Legal Data Intelligence to life by providing a technological foundation that enables our community to address evolving use cases right here and now. We are increasing investment to enhance our offerings and workflows for a variety of legal data management needs, such as with Relativity Data Breach Response, and give our world-class network of strategic partners the tools they require to grow their businesses by meeting the needs of their own clients.
This is an exciting time for all of us looking to build long-lasting, successful journeys in legal tech. We each have the rare opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping the future of our industry. That’s a remarkable privilege we share.
Advancing Generative AI
Meanwhile, generative AI is no longer a trend—it’s a step-function change in the way we work, and it’s actively transforming how organizations and individuals operate in virtually every sector (including ours). With record investments in these technologies—to the tune of $1 trillion in the coming years—its potential to drive value across every industry is unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Since 2022, we’ve worked closely with our community to develop generative AI solutions that are incredibly fast, accurate, reliable, and useful. Throughout this ongoing process, we’ve taken a thoughtful, disciplined approach guided by clear AI Principles and in close cooperation with our strategic partners and customers. Rather than rushing to market with lightweight chatbots in noncore workflows, we sought to build something truly groundbreaking. We call it Relativity aiR, and it’s designed to transform the way you tackle the most expensive and gnarly stage of any Legal Data Intelligence project: document review.
I am super grateful for the more than 130 early adopters who have helped design, develop, and leverage these tools to solve their most pressing challenges. Their intellect and appetite to embrace AI have helped us build invaluable momentum. Already, they’re transforming their first-pass review workflows with aiR for Review and aiR for Privilege and seeing truly amazing results. You can learn more about how our customers are harnessing AI here.
Our commitment to AI extends far beyond our products; it’s also deeply important to the many supporting pillars that bolster them. In 2025, we are furthering our investments in Relativity and working alongside our strategic partners to provide the platform, playbook, and coaching needed to help you achieve awesome outcomes with generative AI. This includes an expert product services team dedicated to offering one-on-one guidance for utilizing generative AI on live projects, hands-on learning labs, AI bootcamps, webinars, user groups, certifications, and more.

Reaching the Next Milestone in Legal’s Journey to the Cloud
The demands of this transformative new world are clear, and in this high-compute, big data, generative AI environment, the benefits of cloud-native software architecture are more important than ever. We’ve reached a tipping point: native cloud software undeniably provides the superior performance, scale, and security required to address the legal data challenges of tomorrow. To take advantage of these benefits, more than 75 percent of our business with partners and customers is now in RelativityOne, where they are successfully tackling increasingly complex legal data challenges. It’s where our community, working on a wide variety of projects can, indeed, not just keep pace—but thrive.
We believe in our bones that native cloud software represents the most promising path forward, and as such, our policy moving forward is that new Relativity matters created on or after January 1, 2028, must be hosted in RelativityOne, with limited geographical and use case exceptions. ExistingRelativity Server matters, created on or before December 31, 2027, will continue to be supported in Server.
Server has helped power this market for more than two decades, and we truly value our community’s investment in it along the way. To be clear, Server isn’t going away in 2028; it remains an important part of our business. This three-year advanced notice for new matters aims to ensure a rational and seamless transition for your team to the power of native cloud software, in RelativityOne or other viable solutions as you see fit.
Many Server customers and partners have already benefitted from our robust transition program, which offers a portfolio of financial and economic incentives, migration programs, and test environments. All customers making the move to the cloud are supported by our team of strategic and technical experts. We know this is a significant shift for some and we will work with every organization in our community alongside our strategic partners to craft a phased transition plan that’s achievable, economical, and will set their businesses up for success. If you have questions about how this may impact you and how we can help, reach out to us at cloudjourney@relativity.com. As you consider this journey, know that we’ll be right here for you every step of the way.
What’s Ahead
I am personally thankful to be part of this community. As a company, Relativity stands committed to serving our customers … it is our wonderful obsession! There’s no better time than the present to engage with the vast opportunities in front of us, and I’m honored to be part of it.
This community of software developers, corporations, law firms, the public sector, service providers, and everyone in between, coming together for the greater good of our industry—it’s super exciting. Let’s do this!
