International law firm Bird & Bird has advised ASUENE Inc., an enterprise AI sustainability platform, on its acquisition of 2 Degrees Limited (trading as Secaro), a supply chain carbon management platform.
The acquisition represents a significant milestone in ASUENE’s international growth strategy, strengthening its presence across key European and North American markets, enhancing its supply chain decarbonisation offering, and reflecting growing demand among businesses for effective emissions management and sustainability reporting solutions.
Founded in Japan, ASUENE is a technology business focused on supporting organisations with sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives. Its AI enabled platform collects and analyses emissions data, enabling organisations to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions across their operations and supply chains.
Based in the UK, Secaro supports manufacturers and global organisations with supply chain sustainability programmes, providing data collection, analytics and supplier engagement tools across an international network spanning more than 90 countries.
Bird & Bird acted as lead counsel to ASUENE alongside Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. The transaction was led by Matt Bonass, Partner and Co-Head of Bird & Bird’s International Corporate Group, supported by corporate colleagues Monique Dhiri (Senior Associate), and Kim Tan and Bryony Jakubowski (Associates).
The wider Bird & Bird team included Jesse Dalton (Partner), Andrew Rink (Senior Associate) and Alexander Beesley (Associate) from the Tax team, David Walder (Senior Associate) and Danny McNeill (Associate) from our incentives team; James Pearson (Partner, Intellectual Property); Ronald Hendrikx (Partner) and Hayley Blyth (Associate) from the Commercial team; and Alison Dixon (Partner) and Alice Peet (Associate) from the Employment team.
Matt Bonass commented: “We were delighted to support ASUENE on this strategic acquisition. The transaction highlights continued investment in sustainability-focused technology businesses and the increasing importance of supply chain emissions management as organisations respond to evolving regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations. We look forward to seeing ASUENE continue to build its international platform following the acquisition.”
