International law firm Bird & Bird is advising Göng og brú ohf (G&B), Iceland’s newly established infrastructure delivery body, on the delivery of the country’s major transport infrastructure programme, with its first four projects having a combined value exceeding €1.5 billion.
G&B has been established by the Government of Iceland to address a significant infrastructure investment gap, particularly across the country’s roads and tunnels network. G&B will be financing, building, owning, operating and maintaining major transport infrastructure assets across Iceland.
Bird & Bird has been appointed to support G&B on the design and delivery of its procurement programme, beginning with an international market engagement exercise and the procurement of a Client Side Support Team (CSST) to assist with the delivery of its ambitious infrastructure plans.
As part of the launch of the new delivery body, an Open Day was held in Reykjavík on 17 September 2026 at the Harpa Concert Hall, where Iceland’s Prime Minister, Kristrún Frostadóttir, formally introduced G&B and launch its first procurement exercise, alongside the Ministers for Finance and Infrastructure
The mandate is being delivered by Bird & Bird’s international Infrastructure, Projects and Procurement Group (IPPG), drawing expertise from multiple European offices and reflecting the firm’s strength in advising on large-scale projects of national importance.
The Bird & Bird team consists of partners Stuart Cairns, Peter Dann Jørgensen, Andrea Chao, and associate Anders Christensen, together with lawyers from across the firm’s London, Copenhagen and Amsterdam offices. The team is advising on the procurement strategy, market engagement process and delivery framework for the programme.
