HKIAC is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to its Council, Yas Banifatemi, Louie Ogsimer, Albert Jan van den Berg and Friven Yeoh.
New Council Members (in alphabetical order):
Yas Banifatemi – a French / Iranian national, is a founding partner at Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes and one of the leading voices in international arbitration. Yas says: “HKIAC has long stood at the forefront of arbitration innovation. I am honoured to join the Council and contribute to its mission to shape the future of dispute resolution in Asia and beyond.”
Louie Ogsimer – a Filipino national, is a Senior Partner at Romulo Buenaventura who co-chairs the firm’s Dispute Resolution Department and heads its arbitration practice. He teaches International Arbitration and Private International Law. Louie says: “I am honoured to support an institution that is both globally respected and regionally preeminent. I look forward to contributing to HKIAC’s continuing growth and expansion.”
Albert Jan van den Berg – a Dutch national, is a renowned arbitrator and founder of Hanotiau & van den Berg, with unparalleled experience across commercial and investment arbitrations and enforcement of arbitral awards under the New York Convention. Albert Jan says: “HKIAC continues to set new standards in institutional excellence. I look forward to supporting its continued growth and international development.”
Friven Yeoh – a Malaysian national, is a leading commercial arbitration practitioner and head of Skadden’s International Litigation and Arbitration Group in Asia. Friven was previously a member of HKIAC’s Proceedings Committee. Friven says: “The HKIAC has long been recognised as a standard-bearer of excellence and innovation in international arbitration. It is a privilege to once again contribute to HKIAC’s growth and the development of international arbitration across Asia, and globally.”
HKIAC Co-Chairs David W. Rivkin and Rimsky Yuen, GBM, SC, JP, jointly stated:

The Council is HKIAC’s principal governing body and plays a critical role in guiding HKIAC’s strategy and operations. The HKIAC Council is composed of 28 members from 17 jurisdictions who are practitioners, in-house counsel, academics, arbitrators, judges and non-legal professionals. Council members are selected for their integrity, expertise, and contributions to the field of dispute resolution.
