Herbert Smith Freehills, in association with Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung, held our first Construction Disputes Academy in Jakarta on 21 September 2023.
The event attracted over 40 in-house counsel and project teams from key clients, including state-owned enterprises, international developers, and global construction contractors in the power, oil and gas, mining, and telecommunications industries.
In this full-day program, our team guided clients through the practical challenges of common construction disputes, managing claims during the project phase, and resolving those disputes through arbitration. The speakers drew on extensive experience and successes representing clients on major construction disputes around the world.
The training was led by Jakarta and Singapore disputes partners Prawidha Murti and Dan Waldek, Jakarta projects partners Dhani Maulana Pattinggi and Matthew Goerke, and senior associates Lim Tse Wei and Ella Wisniewski from the Singapore disputes team. The team was also joined by construction consultants Andrei Soltan and Maximilian D. Benz from HKA, who provided valuable technical and practical insights from the perspective of independent experts.
The Construction Disputes Academy is the second in a series of Disputes Academies where we share our international arbitration experience with our clients, following our popular Arbitration Academy held in Jakarta in February 2023.
“Issues arising from liquidated damages claims often arise due to the indonesia law concept of damages and loss. The academy has been crafted to discuss the practice, the precedents and how to tackle the issue first hand“, said Prawidha Murti.
“Indonesia continues to be a critical market for clients in the construction sector, given the significant need for major energy and infrastructure development. This unique event demonstrated the ongoing appetite for our ability to deliver seamless and integrated advice on the most complex Indonesia projects“, said Dan Waldek.
