A team led by Laurens Cools, with the support of Kélian Rask and Coralie Mencik, advised BSTOR on the financing of ESTOR-LUX II, a new large-scale battery energy storage project with a capacity of 270 MWh. Located in the industrial zone of Aubange, this project is a key advancement in Belgium’s electricity storage infrastructure and energy transition.
The ESTOR-LUX II park boasts a connection power of 100 MW and a storage capacity exceeding previous projects by more than tenfold compared to ESTOR-LUX I. With construction underway, the park’s commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2026. Eneco, an energy supplier, will manage the valorisation and distribution of the park’s flexible capacity across several markets.
The project, representing a total investment of 124 million euros, is primarily financed by non-recourse debt provided by KBC, Belfius, and Triodos Bank, covering 65% of the budget. The remaining balance is funded by equity investment.
The collaboration marks BSTOR’s continual success in the energy sector, confirming its position as a pioneering independent player in Belgium’s energy transition. From ESTOR-LUX I in Bastogne to DSTOR in La Louvière, BSTOR will achieve a cumulative storage capacity of over 430 MWh by the end of 2026.
