Linklaters is delighted to announce that Alejandro Martínez de Hoz has joined the firm as Head of Latin American Arbitration in Washington, D.C. Alejandro further strengthens Linklaters’ market-leading International Arbitration practice and continues the firm’s ongoing U.S. expansion across disputes, M&A, and finance.

With more than 17 years of experience in Latin American arbitration, Alejandro has represented clients in dozens of international disputes across industries and jurisdictions, involving claims totaling tens of billions of dollars. His experience spans investment treaty and international commercial arbitrations, mediations, and related disputes and negotiations. He has handled groundbreaking matters, including the first arbitration under the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement, a dispute involving Guatemala’s first privately financed hydroelectric plant, and the development of novel mediation mechanisms to resolve significant cross-border disputes.
Joe Profaizer, Global Co-Head of International Arbitration, said:
“Alejandro is a seasoned arbitration lawyer with an exceptional reputation across Latin America. His arrival reflects our continued efforts to build the strongest international arbitration team in the market and further enhances our ability to advise clients on their most complex and consequential disputes around the world.”
Linklaters’ International Arbitration practice is one of the largest in the world, recognized in the prestigious GAR 30 — Global Arbitration Review’s list of the world’s top international arbitration practices — and highly ranked in Chambers and Legal 500. The team, led by over 40 partners and counsel, acts in arbitral proceedings across the globe, including key international arbitration centers Washington, D.C., New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, and Dubai.
Alejandro joins Linklaters during a period of significant momentum for the firm’s U.S. platform. Since FY22, Linklaters has grown its U.S. partnership by more than 75% with the addition of elite teams across M&A, disputes, and finance, and more than doubled revenue and quadrupled profits in the U.S.
In Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations in particular, the firm added a top international arbitration team led by Joe Profaizer in 2024 and has since added a series of other market-leading partners including an elite trial team led by Adeel Mangi, Muhammad Faridi, Diana Conner, and George LoBiondo, a top strategic litigation and sports sector team led by Chris Boehning, Dan Levi, and César Rivière, and most recently, Johnson & Johnson global litigation head Erik Haas.
