Linklaters has been named a finalist in the seventh annual UK Social Mobility Awards (SOMOs), recognising and showcasing best practice in promoting social mobility and those organisations making a tangible difference within their communities.
The firm has been shortlisted in the Progression Programme category for its pioneering programme of activities implemented to address the barriers faced by individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds within legal organisations, specifically focusing on retention and progression.
Recognising that no one intervention could close the progression gap identified in the research produced from the firm’s collaboration with the Bridge Group, Linklaters launched an employee-driven Social Mobility Network in 2019 to ensure that irrespective of their background, talented individuals are able to reach their full potential at the firm. The Network and the firm has worked hard to implement a range of initiatives, including targeted training, sharing stories, and a “billable credit” to recognise time spent promoting the cause.
Organised by Making The Leap, the SOMOs were the first national awards dedicated to social mobility, which aims to raise awareness of social mobility by sharing the innovative work of forward-thinking organisations working to improve it.
