In a recent talk entitled “Kilatis—the Power of Informed Voting,” DivinaLaw Senior Partner Atty. Gregorio “Goyo” Y. Larrazabal engaged with over 150 law students and undergraduates from various colleges at the University of Santo Tomas.
“Kilatis,” which means to scrutinize, framed the core of his message: voters have a responsibility to examine candidates closely and choose leaders intentionally.
“Ordinary people can do extraordinary things,” he emphasized, noting that meaningful participation in the electoral process is a powerful tool for nation-building. Voting, he said, is one of the simplest yet most effective ways individuals can secure a better future for their loved ones by supporting leaders who can create more opportunities for all.
During the open forum, students asked about electoral reforms and the challenges of misinformation. Atty. Larrazabal addressed each question and encouraged the audience to approach elections with both skepticism and hope—scrutinize candidates fearlessly, and never underestimate the difference your vote can make.
Atty. Goyo is the head of DivinaLaw’s Election Law practice group and has been a longtime advocate of voter empowerment.
