The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law emerged as the champion in the recently concluded 2024 Jessup Cup—the largest Jessup competition held thus far. This year’s competition drew 642 teams from over 90 countries and 150 teams at the international rounds held in Washington, DC.
UP Law brought home their second Jessup Cup after besting Universidad Torcuato Di Tella of Argentina in the final round.
The team was composed of Mary Regine Dadole, Pauline De Leon, Pauline Samantha Sagayo, Chinzen Viernes, and Ignacio Lorenzo Villareal. Prof. Marianne Vitug and Prof. Rommel Casis served as the team’s coach and adviser, respectively.
Villareal clinched the Schwebel Award for Best Oralist Award in the Championship Round.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest and largest international moot court competition in the world. Participating schools simulate a fictional dispute between countries that is brought before the International Court of Justice.
DivinaLaw and the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law have been the sponsor and co-organizer of the national rounds of the Jessup Cup since 2014.
UP Law was among the top four teams in this year’s national competition and brought home the award for Best Applicant Memorial.
