SyCipLaw is pleased to announce the appointment of Carina “Caren” C. Laforteza as the President of the Tax Management Association of the Philippines (TMAP) for the year 2025. The induction of this year’s TMAP officers and directors was held on February 6, 2025, at the Makati Diamond Residences.
The appointment reflects Caren’s unwavering commitment to advancing tax management practices and her exemplary leadership within the tax community. Caren is a senior partner and head of Tax department at SyCipLaw, who has built an impressive career in tax advisory and compliance, serving both local and multinational clients. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Caren will be instrumental in shaping tax policies and practices that align with international standards while addressing the unique challenges faced by businesses in the Philippines.
During the ceremony, SyCipLaw Managing Partner Hector M. de Leon, Jr., who is also a SyCipLaw representative to TMAP, introduced Caren before her inaugural address to the members of the organization.
Caren began her message by acknowledging the support of the organization and its members that led to her appointment. “It is with great pleasure that I stand before you today as the new President of TMAP. This moment is not just a personal milestone; it is a testament to the collective dedication and hard work of each member of our organization.” she said. “In these transformative times, our role as tax professionals has never been more critical, and the purpose of our organization has never been more paramount.”
She also elaborated on TMAP’s theme for 2025, “Expertise in Tax, Excellence in Practice,” saying, “I believe this theme encapsulates the vision and direction that TMAP needs to take to respond to the evolving landscape of taxation. It reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in tax practice, driven by a deep understanding of the complexities of tax law and the pressing need for effective tax management in an increasingly globalized economy.”
In closing, Caren expressed her enthusiasm to work alongside the members towards their shared goals for the organization. “With your support, I am confident that we can continue to build on the solid foundation laid by our predecessors to steer TMAP towards greater heights and elevate the standards of tax practice in the Philippines.”
In her new role as President of TMAP, Caren will lead the association in its mission to promote the study, understanding, and improvement of tax management in the country. She aims to foster collaboration among tax professionals, government agencies, and stakeholders to enhance transparency, compliance, and efficiency in the tax system.
