The current Dungowan Dam has a capacity of 6.3 gigalitres, and the Project potentially involves the replacement of the current dam with a larger dam, increasing the capacity to 22 gigalitres. The pipeline, which is part of the enabling works for the expansion project, will assist in securing the long-term water supply for Tamworth.
The Commonwealth Government has committed A$242 million for the Dungowan Dam project, funded from the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund. The Fund is accelerating the detailed planning and construction of water infrastructure projects that will deliver new and affordable water, enhance water security and underpin regional economic growth.
Ashurst advised WaterNSW throughout the request for tender process for the design and construction contract for the new pipeline, including negotiations with the successful tenderer, MPC Kinetic.
Partner Gareth Sage commented:
"We are delighted to have acted for WaterNSW on the Dungowan pipeline project, a significant investment in infrastructure that will safeguard water security for Tamworth and neighbouring regional and rural areas."
The Ashurst team was led by partner Gareth Sage, assisted by counsel Ben Kipic, senior associate Charlotte Britton and lawyers Marya Atmeh and Lachlan Mack.
