On 24 June, Deacons’ vacation students participated in a new initiative of ABCs of Law!
The COVID-19 pandemic has put a strain on many face-to-face activities including volunteering work. With dedication and creativity, our ten vacation students, together with Annie Tsoi, Partner, and the Graduate Recruitment Team, produced the first ABCs of Law e-story book. The story entitled “ 誰是森 林「唱作王 」” [click the image to read] was presented via WebEx to around 50 members of the Hans Andersen Club (HAC) Diana Boyd Wilson Centre, Chuk Yuen Centre and Storyland. Our vacation students told the story about protecting intellectual property and led several discussions with members of HAC which highlighted the importance of respecting others’ original work.
This is the 7th year of partnership with HAC. Deacons Cares’ award-winning project ABCs of Law demonstrates a creative approach using our knowledge and expertise to serve our community. Social distancing does not stop us from volunteering but raises our work to the next level. We are very proud of our volunteers who put together an e-story book within an extremely tight time constraint.
The activity was extremely rewarding and our volunteers had a great time interacting with children from HAC. Feedback from our vacation students was very positive and they were surprised by the level of the children’s interest in the subject!
The ABCs of Law Programme is an award-winning community outreach programme jointly developed by Deacons Cares and HAC. Established in 2014, it aims to provide children with a basic understanding of the law and how it relates to them as members of the society.
