Janice joins a year after the arrival of Projects partner Lim Siaw Wan.
Wong & Partners, a member of Baker McKenzie International in Malaysia, announced the hire of Dispute Resolution Partner Janice Tay, who has joined from Skrine. Her hire is part of the Firm's expansionary strategy to strengthen its end-to-end capabilities in advising on major construction, engineering and infrastructure projects.
"Janice joins us at a time when the increase in the construction sector is largely driven by an influx of investments from China, Korea and Japan into Southeast Asia. China's multi-decade Belt and Road Initiative will also fuel growth in the sector and translate to a rise in the number of projects on offer." said Andre Gan, Managing Partner, referencing research findings from the "Belt & Road: Opportunity & Risk" report, which was published by Baker McKenzie in end 2017.
"As construction activity continues to grow, contractors will inevitably rely more on market mechanism rather than government relations to win work and settle contract disputes. The addition of Janice to our Dispute Resolution practice means that we are well-positioned to assist clients in managing or mitigating their risks throughout the entire lifecycle of construction and infrastructure projects," said Chew Kherk Ying, Head of the Dispute Resolution practice group.
Janice's expertise lies in Construction and Engineering, where she regularly advises international and local clients on construction law in Malaysia. She is experienced in international and domestic arbitrations, and has appeared in all levels of the Courts.

Janice is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Mediator. She is a qualified Adjudicator under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA) and is on the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration's (KLRCA) panel of arbitrators, adjudicators and mediators. Aside from acting as counsel and advocate, Janice dedicates her time as the current Deputy President of the Society of Construction Law (Malaysia).
