Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its marine and international trade practice with the addition of Jason Toms, who re-joins the firm’s Hong Kong office as of counsel.
Toms – a former partner of the firm – brings more than 25 years of experience advising clients on all aspects of commercial and maritime litigation, including charter party, bill of lading and cargo disputes, contentious trust claims, director misfeasance and fraud claims, on board investigation of marine accidents and incidents, salvage and general average claims, shareholder disputes and company winding-up proceedings.
“Our marine and international trade practice is a core facet of the firm, and well-known for advising clients in the shipping, offshore and commodity sectors on some of the most complex marine incidents and disputes,” said Jamie Stranger, Stephenson Harwood’s Greater China office managing partner. “It’s great to welcome Jason back to the firm. He needs little introduction; he’s an exceptional lawyer and his knowledge and experience adds to our existing bench strength.”
Toms acts for ship-owners, P&I clubs, salvors, airlines, investment companies, banks and private individuals in arbitrations and court actions in Hong Kong and England. He is the only Solicitor Advocate in Hong Kong with specialist shipping experience, allowing him rights of audience before all Hong Kong Courts.
Stephenson Harwood’s marine and international trade practice offers services to clients in the shipping, insurance, offshore and commodity sectors. Clients include many of the world's largest shipowners, shipyards, major ship finance banks, marine insurers and IG P&I clubs, energy services companies, oil and gas companies and commodities traders.
