Hong Kong law firm Tanner De Witt is delighted to announce 100% successful retention of its trainees who are due to qualify in 2021. All four trainees who have recently completed the two-year training programme have accepted solicitor positions with the firm.
The trainees joining Tanner De Witt as solicitors are:
Andrea obtained her Bachelor of Laws and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong in 2018 and 2019. She will join the Corporate and Commercial Department with fellow trainee Hunter, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Simon Fraser in 2014 and obtained his Juris Doctor and PCLL at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Daniel, who will join our Dispute Resolution practice, received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hong Kong in 2018 and went on to complete his Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) at the University of Hong Kong in 2019.
Erica graduated from the University of Durham with a Bachelor of Laws and obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the City University of Hong Kong. Erica will join our Restructuring and Insolvency department.
Tanner De Witt’s training programme is composed of four six-month seats. Trainees have the opportunity to gain experience in contentious and non-contentious work in four of five core practice areas: Corporate and Commercial, Dispute Resolution, Restructuring and Insolvency, Employment, and Family.
The training programme demonstrates the firm’s dedication to developing the careers of its assistant solicitors. Sunny Hathiramani, who joined Tanner De Witt as a trainee in 2010, was promoted in 2019 to Partner. He is one of two home-grown partners at the firm, the first being River Stone who was made up a year prior.
The firm admits several trainees a year; this year it is an all-female cohort comprised of Christy Cheung, Jane Du, Stephanie Sy and Teresa Lau.
Christy earned her LLB at Durham University in the United Kingdom and has completed internships at Shanghai International Arbitration Centre and at a law firm in Beijing, China. Christy is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and proficient in Korean. Christy likes watching Formula 1, discovering new indie music, playing the guitar, singing and baking.
Jane completed her JD at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Engineering in Criminal Science and Technology at The Criminal Investigation Police University of China. Jane has completed internships at several law firms in Hong Kong and China and in-house at an investment company in Hong Kong. Jane speaks native Mandarin and is fluent in English and Cantonese. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and trying different cuisines.
Stephanie earned her PCLL at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Master of Arts at King’s College London and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Politics and Public Administration at The University of Hong Kong. She has completed a range of internships at private practice law firm and in-house at a bank. Stephanie is a native Cantonese speaker and fluent in English, Mandarin and Hokkien. Stephanie plays a wide range of sports such as hiking, running, and dragonboat. She also practices yoga and completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2021.
Teresa completed her PCLL at The University of Hong Kong, LLM at University College London and LLB at The University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. Teresa has completed several internships at law firms in Hong Kong and China. She has experience as a research assistant at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and as a Court Liaison Officer at The Duty Lawyer Service in Hong Kong. Teresa is an HKMAAL Accredited Mediator, a Panel Mediator Member of the Hong Kong Mediation Centre and a Certified Workplace Mediator of the Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Mediation Centre. Teresa is a native Cantonese speaker and fluent in English and Mandarin. In her free time, Teresa enjoys trying new restaurants and cooking healthy homemade meals.
