On July 27, 2023, the Lok Sabha passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 (“Jan Vishwas Bill”) introduced by the MoC&I. The primary objective of the Jan Vishwas Bill is to amend certain enactments with the aim of decriminalizing and rationalizing minor offenses in order to further enhance trust-based governance for ease of living and ease of doing business.
The Jan Vishwas Bill proposes to amend 183 provisions to be decriminalized in 42 Central Acts administered by 19 Ministries/Department. The are various Acts covered under this Bill, including but not limited to: i. The Copyright Act, 1957 ii. The Patents Act, 1970 iii. The Information Technology Act, 2000 iv. The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 v. The Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002
