Global law firm K&L Gates LLP and Singapore firm Straits Law Practice LLC have been in discussions regarding a combination of K&L Gates’ Singapore office with Straits Law, for which the firms have received approval from the Singapore Legal Services Regulatory Authority. The combination is now subject to the agreement of the partners of both firms and the subsequent signing of documents, with a targeted effective date of 1 January 2019. The combination would expand Straits Law’s full-service practice offering to a global level while also allowing K&L Gates to provide clients with legal services involving Singapore law.
N. Sreenivasan, SC, Managing Director of Straits Law, and David K.Y. Tang, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Asia, said: “The combined talents and resources of our lawyers in Singapore will allow us to seamlessly serve both local and international clients in Singapore and in the region.”
Since its incorporation in 2001, Straits Law Practice LLC has become a well-known, medium size law firm in Singapore. The firm has a highly ranked disputes practice recognized for handling complex corporate litigation, arbitration, construction, and white-collar crime cases. In terms of non-contentious work, Straits Law has a well-established banking and restructuring practice and India desk. Similar to K&L Gates, Straits Law has always been and remains committed to pro bono legal service and community work.
With more than 1,800 lawyers throughout 45 offices across five continents, K&L Gates offers an expansive and fully integrated network of offices. In addition to 11 offices throughout the Asia Pacific region, K&L Gates also has locations across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
A further update will be provided upon successful approvals from the firms’ partners and execution of documents.
