LAW Partnership announces next phase of an ambitious growth strategy.
Brian Law, Managing Partner of LAW Partnership, announced today that Raphael Tay has joined the firm in a newly created role as Head of Corporate and Commercial.
Raphael is acknowledged by clients, peers and international legal directories as a leader of the Malaysian Bar. For over three decades he has advised Malaysian, regional and international organisations on their most challenging and complex transactions.
Raphael’s move to LAW Partnership marks a key stage in the evolution of the firm’s strategy. It also demonstrates the value that LAW Partnership places on ‘client listening’, a recent development in client relationship management.
LAW Partnership was founded as an IP & Tech and litigation firm that advised a select group of Malaysian and international clients. The decision to move to a full-service model, with the establishment of a Corporate and Commercial team, was largely driven by clients’ demand both locally and internationally.
The firm has established a reputation as the ‘new law’ firm in the Malaysian legal market. A mere 12 months after opening for business, LAW Partnership won the prestigious ALB Malaysia “Rising Law Firm of the Year” at an awards ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. It has maintained this focus on constant innovation, including the adoption of legal technologies, customised pricing ‘menus’, incorporating client feedback into recruitment strategies and plans, and introducing new approaches to client relationship management.
Brian Law, Managing Partner, LAW Partnership said:
‘I am pleased to announce Raphael’s appointment.
His arrival to lead our new Corporate and Commercial group places LAW Partnership firmly amongst the elite of Malaysian firms.
All of our partners and associates have benefitted from working on international transactions and disputes, and this will be further strengthened through Raphael’s experience in advising on strategic acquisitions, disposals and technology deals.’
Raphael commented:
‘I am proud to join the ambitious and progressive team at LAW Partnership and I look forward to leading the new Corporate and Commercial practice.
The firm’s association with Eversheds Sutherland is particularly important for my clients, who need a Malaysian firm with strong ties to an international firm with a global footprint’.
Stephen Kitts, Managing Partner, Asia, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:
“I congratulate Raphael and Brian on this appointment.
LAW Partnership is an important member of ESAPA, the Eversheds Sutherland Asia Pacific Alliance. This group brings together leading firms in Asia-Pacific under the Eversheds Sutherland ‘umbrella’ so clients receive the same levels of service and support in over 40 jurisdictions across the region.’
Teck Wah, APAC Counsel for Syngenta, added:
'As one of the most senior corporate advisers in Malaysia, Raphael’s move to LAW Partnership is significant for a number of reasons. In particular, it demonstrates the increasing sophistication of the Malaysian legal market coupled with the rise of 'New Law' firms such as LAW Partnership.
Raphael's experience and LAW Partnership's modern, client-focused approach will prove an unbeatable combination'.
