Introduced in September 2023, the program offers significant advantages for applicants.
The Indonesian Patent Office and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, introducing the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program in September 2023. It is now available for online submission. This program offers significant advantages for applicants.
One of the primary benefits of the PPH program is the expedited patent examination process in Indonesia. Typically, it takes approximately 2 years from the application date to receive a substantive examination result. However, using the PPH program, this timeline can be reduced to just six months from the date of the PPH request, saving valuable time for the Applicant.
Applicants are encouraged to review their recently filed applications and consider utilizing the PPH request. They can file the PPH request before the issuance of the substantive examination result by examining the substantive examination results issued by KIPO.
In conclusion, the introduction of the PPH program by the Indonesian Patent Office and KIPO represents a substantial leap forward in expediting the examination process for patents in Indonesia.
Title : First implementation of the Patent Priority Examination Cooperation (PPH) system between the Korea Intellectual Property Office and the Indonesian Intellectual Property Office
In September 2023, the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Indonesian Intellectual Property Office signed a memorandum of understanding to introduce the Patent Priority Examination Cooperation (Patent Prosecution Highway, hereinafter referred to as “PPH”) program, and applications are currently available online. It is expected that this PPH program will provide significant advantages to applicants.
One of the most important benefits of the PPH program is that it speeds up the patent examination process in Indonesia. When you file a patent application in Indonesia, it usually takes about two years to receive the results of the substantive examination. However, by using the PPH program, this period is greatly reduced to 6 months, saving the applicant’s valuable time.
Accordingly, applicants are encouraged to review whether they can apply for the PPH program in Indonesia if they have recently filed applications. Applicants can use the substantive examination results issued by the Korea Intellectual Property Office to submit a PPH application before the substantive examination results are released in Indonesia.
The introduction of the PPH program between the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Indonesian Intellectual Property Office can be seen as a significant leap forward in expediting the patent examination process in Indonesia.
