My dear readers know that this column is about law and relevant jurisprudence sans commentary or personal advocacy. Every now and then, however, I write articles not related to the core subject of my column. This happens on Christmas day, during the Easter season, and on every anniversary date I started writing for Tribune. Let me add one more exception — our law firm anniversary.
Recently, we celebrated our 17th founding anniversary. In my 30 years of experience in the academe and the practice of the law profession, I encounter numerous inspiring stories often from my students, and lawyers in our law firm. For every application, interview, and a mere first-day introduction, each person has a unique story to tell on the inspiration for entering law school, the motivation for pursuing a legal career, and the reason for applying with DivinaLaw. Some are breadwinners, others are pursuing a childhood dream, and not a few are just really passionate about fighting for others’ rights.
In these academic and professional moments of interaction, those who easily catch my attention are those who have exhibited willingness to step out of their comfort zones, those who have very little but have overcome the biggest hurdles, and those who have kept their faith amidst adversities.
Perhaps I am reminded of the obstacles I had to go through when I founded DivinaLaw. When the Firm was formed in 2006, we operated on a tight budget. The future was uncertain, but I knew that one thing is certain — that God is sovereign.
I did not have much, but carried with me three important things — perseverance, positivity, and prayer. Perseverance allows my body to be productive and dynamic. Positivity allows my mind to be hopeful and faithful. Prayer allows my mind, heart, and soul to be peaceful in union with God’s will.
Through perseverance, positivity, and prayer, I pursued my dreams. I am thankful to God, my family, our clients, and friends for what the Firm has become after 17 years. From a handful of five lawyers, our DL family has grown to over 100 lawyers. All glory to God.
This month, this column also celebrates its 5th anniversary. Time flies fast indeed. Here are interesting statistics that our Corporate Affairs Department has gathered as of 28 June 2023.

We have likewise responded to numerous queries from readers on a wide range of myriad topics after, of course, clearing conflicts.
It gives me a profound sense of pride and joy to write for this paper and my good friends, Willie and Chingbee. What they have accomplished for Daily Tribune is nothing less than remarkable.
I also take this opportunity to express profusely my gratitude to you my dear readers for your loyal patronage.
What lies ahead for our law firm and this column? No one knows for sure. But, as we forge the future, we will live by the same principles and values that brought us here — Commitment, Loyalty, Integrity, Teamwork, and Faith in God.
