On November 3, FitzGerald corporate partner Richard Grams hosted an in-house seminar at the Shanghai office of our mainland China associate firm Watson & Band. Richard, who formerly worked both as a venture capitalist and as a general counsel (GC), spoke on the importance of raising your work product quality to meet the increasingly sophisticated expectations of in-house general counsels.
In the first of a series of in-house seminars – entitled “What In-House Clients Want” – Richard presented his top 10 tips to keep GC clients happy, especially when working on China-related matters.
Through the seminar, Richard shared some of his experience working with and as a GC, and expanded on the ever-evolving legal field and how attorneys are expected to react and evolve with a constantly changing legal industry.
Some developments Richard mentioned include the push towards legaltech and the increased use of AI and other tech-based advances.
Since its founding in 1995, FitzGerald’s associate firm Watson & Band has flourished into a full-service law firm with more than 200 professionals around China.
With top flight IP and corporate practices, Watson & Band is proud to guide clients as they improve operations and achieve business goals throughout mainland China.

He has lived and worked in Greater China since 1988 and nearly all of his legal career has been devoted to cross border mergers and acquisitions of businesses operating in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
