On 18 January 2017, the Singapore Ministry of Health ("MOH") announced the integration of Singapore's public healthcare systems from the current 6 systems to 3 main clusters. The integration is expected to be completed by early 2018.
The aim of this reorganisation is for each cluster to offer a wider range of services to serve the community's needs. Each cluster will have acute hospital care, primary care, community care, and a medical school.
The MOH reported that transitioning to the new clusters will not affect patients and the day-to-day delivery of healthcare services. The MOH will work closely with the clusters to ensure cross-cluster information flow and coordinated services.
This highlights the need for technology to support accessibility of medical data across clusters, whilst ensuring its security and integrity.
