Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has promoted eight lawyers to its partnership, effective on 1 May 2021.

Carolyn Hall has been named a partner in the firm’s corporate practice. Based in London, she specialises in investment funds – ranging from closed-ended listed funds to hedge funds – acting on fund launches, secondary issuances and reconstructions, as well as providing ongoing advice to funds, investment managers, brokers and sponsors. She also regularly acts for clients on a range of general corporate matters.
Justin Gan has been named a partner in the firm’s marine and international trade practice. Based in Singapore, he acts in charterparty, offshore, trade, and ship financing-related disputes, as well as non-contentious matters in the marine sector. Justin is fluent in Mandarin and his matters are often China-related. He also handles commercial and cryptocurrency-related disputes. Justin is qualified in Singapore, Hong Kong, and England & Wales.
Katie Hewson has been named a partner in the firm’s corporate practice. Based in London, Katie is a recognised data protection law specialist, with expertise in GDPR, e-privacy and other information law issues. She works with international clients across a range of sectors, including financial and professional services, retail, analytics and life sciences.
Sean Crowley has been named a partner in the firm’s finance practice. Based in London, he is part of the banking team, and advises lenders and borrowers on a range of debt financing transactions, with a particular expertise in real estate finance, debt restructuring and corporate trusts.
Richard Hugg has been named a partner in the firm’s marine and international trade practice. Based in London, he has more than ten years' experience in the marine insurance market, acting for insurers on a wide range of classes of business, with a particular focus on H&M, war, cargo and liability insurance disputes. He also advises on salvage, general average and recovery angles.
Anna Kwong has been named a partner in the firm’s finance practice. Based in Hong Kong, she specialises in international trade finance and commercial banking, and regularly advises local, Chinese and international financial institutions and corporates on trade finance matters, cross-border loan transactions and general commercial banking matters.
Mark Lakin has been named a partner in the firm's Dubai partnership. He is a member of the marine and international trade practice, and has a broad range of litigation experience, with specialist expertise in shipping, commodities and trade finance disputes. He acts for a range of clients, including oil majors, state-owned oil companies, trading houses, independent commodities traders, shipowners, hedge funds and banks.
Simone Liu has been named a partner in the firm’s finance practice. Based in Shanghai, she focuses on shipbuilding, sale and purchase and ship finance transactions, including complex structured finance projects and financial leasing matters. She advises major Chinese banks, leading financial leasing institutions and shipyards.
