Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance has advised BW Group on its acquisition of 100% of Hawaiki Submarine Cable and International Connectivity Services (Hawaiki).
The Hawaiki Submarine Cable is the largest and fastest cross-sectional fibre optic cable between the United States and Oceania (which links 15,000 km between landing stations in Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, the Pacific Islands, Hawaii and the west coast of the US) and offers services for telcos, internet service providers, cloud service providers and others. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, represents a significant phase of development for Hawaiki in its efforts to connect more countries across the oceans while working to reduce the environmental impact. Founded in 1955, BW Group is a global maritime company involved in shipping, floating infrastructure, deepwater oil and gas production, and new sustainable technologies.
The team was led by partner Tom Platts and senior associate Philippa English, supported by associates Laura Baker, Ming Hui Gan, Cong Ning Chan and paralegal Hannah Wong. Singapore law advice was provided by Virtus Law partner Sheetal Sandhu and associate Lena Ow.
