The Fair Trade Commission (hereinafter referred to as the Fair Trade Commission) resolved on June 30, 2021 to establish a task force to conduct comprehensive industry investigations on digital platforms and serve as the basis for subsequent investigations.
Due to the strong influence of digital platform giants, major international competition law enforcement agencies have launched relevant investigations in recent years. Recently, the fair has gradually paid attention to this issue. The fair held a symposium on "Digital Platforms, Content Websites and Online Advertising Industry Ecology and Disputes" in April 2021. The Fair also passed a committee resolution at the end of June to set up a task group to conduct an analysis and survey of industry business profiles on digital platforms. At the same time, it also decided to conduct research on Google and Facebook's investigation dynamics and related issues by the competition law authorities of various countries.
Chen Zhimin, vice chairman of the Fair Commission, said that industry investigations will be conducted on the upstream and downstream peripheral industries involved in the digital platform to understand the current business overview and transaction status. In the process, the opinions of relevant ministries may also be consulted as the basis for subsequent investigations.
