The TIPO received 84,816 trademark applications in 2018, a new high in 18 years, due mainly to applications made by foreign applicants.
There were 59,840 applications by domestic applicants, a decrease of 2% compared to 2017, and 24,976 applications by foreign applicants, an increase of 11% from the previous year.
In terms of the applicants’ nationality, the top three countries are China (mainland), with 5,770 applications (+19%), Japan, with 4,728 applications (+21%), and the U.S.A., with 4,187 applications (+14%).
