The Department of Internal Trade, the Ministry of Commerce has recently empowered the Central Committee on the Price of Goods and Services ("CCP") to consider regulating medical supplies and medical treatment services as controlled goods and services under the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542 (1999), to address public concerns over private hospital fees and ensure greater control in this regard.
On 22 January 2019, the CCP issued the Notification of the Central Committee on the Price of Goods and Services No. 1 B.E. 2562 (2019) re: Controlled Goods and Services ("Notification") which will be enforceable for one year (i.e. January 2020). The Notification adds medical supplies for the treatment of diseases (e.g. gauze, IV tubing, and medical needles) and medical treatment services to the list of controlled goods and services, which already included medicine.
The main effect of being "controlled goods/services" is that the CCP may impose certain legal measures to regulate the pricing of these goods and services.
